Actors should prepare a one minute contemporary, dramatic monologue. The monologue should be from a published play. The actor should know the title of the play, the name of the character, the name of the playwright. A contemporary play can be any work from 1950-Present.
The actor may choose from the following:
1. Prepare a punk-pop song no longer than 32 bars. The actor must provide sheet music to the music director. The actor can also play their own instrument: guitar, piano (ACT has a keyboard), etc. If you bring your own instrument, you must also provide any equipment you will need: power cords, amps, etc, etc.
Punk-pop: is a fusion of punk and pop genres that combines elements of punk rock with pop music to varying degrees. The music typically combines fast punk tempos, chord changes and loud guitars with pop-influenced melodies and lyrical themes. examples include: Green Day, The Off-Spring, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Vandals, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, also try Ska Punk: bands include Rancid, Save Ferris, No Doubt, NOFX
2. Prepare a song from a rock musical or movie, no longer than 32 bars. examples: Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Across the Universe, The Who's Tommy, Quadrophenia, Next to Normal
3. The music director will teach a section of a song from American Idiot. The actor will learn the section, and sing it back.
