Join us as Arlington Children's Theatre and Arlington Center for the Arts present their 2014 collaborative production! Every year, these productions bring great childrens' literature to life, welcoming local schoolchildren to the theatre and introducing the excitement of a theatrical production into the classroom. This year's production is Pippi Longstocking, adapted for the stage from the stories of Astrid Lindgren by Thomas W. Olsen: On the outskirts of town stands a ramshackle house. It may not seem like much 'til you peek through the railings — then, there's a horse on the porch, a monkey in the kitchen and a freckle faced, red-pigtailed, whirlwind of a girl in mismatched stockings presiding over all! This is the domain of — ready? — Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking.

An original absurdist play, in which one man, Charles, struggles to find himself, questions the reality of realism, and doubts that matter matters and, of course, falls in love (with a rock). With ACT's first original play, actors will be a part of the unique process of producing an original work: staged reading, workshop of specific scenes, auditions, and of course performance.

Arlington Children's Theatre's production is told with all the thrills of a classic adventure, the story begins with Bastian, a lonely boy, who stumbles into a curious bookshop where he discovers a curious bookâThe Neverending Story. Bastian hides in the attic of his school and begins to read, and a huge adventure surges into life. Fantastica, a land of stories, is being destroyed by the Nothing. The Childlike Empress has chosen Atreyu, a young hunter, to be the Hero of the Great Quest. Atreyu, an orphan, is an unlikely choice, but he accepts and, with his horse and companion, Artax, rides to face the menace. The Never Ending Story, adapted for the stage by David S. Craig, is based on the fantasy novel by Michael Ende. The tale of a shy boy unknowingly transported into Ateyu's adventure, was first published in 1979 and has gathered a large fan base over the years, especially with the 1984 movie of the same name. The Never Ending Story is a fun-filled experience for the entire family, performed by 30 actors age 7-12 from the communities of Arlington, Somerville, Cambridge, Belmont, and Lexington. Follow Bastian as he joins Atreyu, the Wind Giants, Falkor the Luck Dragon, and Morla the enormous sea turtle, to help save Fanastica from the powerful Nothing.
