Welcome to ACT's Summer Season 2014!
This summer ACT will produce two musicals. The shows are Into the Woods Jr. and Assassins. Unlike recent summers, there is no overlap in the age ranges for the shows, so you already know what show you are in. Each show will have a single cast with three performances. See the tables below for more details on rehearsals and performances for each show.

Links to the schedule for each show can be found below. These schedules will continue to be updated as rehearsals start, so be sure to check back frequently.
The summer audition process has changed slightly from previous years, and it is extremely important you follow the below instructions, and sign up for a designated audition slot.
Remember: After Auditions on May 20 and 28, and Callbacks June 9th-11th, the artistic staff will cast each actor where they feel the actor best supports the overall production. Show Eligibility is as follows:
The audition instructions are divided by show:
Sides from Into the Woods Jr may be found here.
All actors will learn a song from Into the Woods at the audition. They will be taught in a group, then asked to sing it individually.
Please prepare one of the provided monologues.
The actor may choose to prepare a piece no longer than 64 bars, from a published musical. *****Sheet music must be provided by the actor for the music director.*****
***If the actor chooses not to prepare a song, a brief section of a song from Assassins will be chosen for them, with a brief time to work with the music director.***
Initial auditions will be held on May 20 and 28 in the ACT Space at The Arlington Center for the Arts.
end of PreAudition
Our first meeting will be held on Monday, June 9th, from 5–7 PM at Arlington Center for the Arts. Parents will meet from 6–7 PM to review the logistics of the shows and solicit volunteers for the various production committees. The schedule for the week will be as follows:
Date | Time | Who | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Monday, June 9 | 5–7 PM | ALL | Meet and Greet |
Tuesday, June 10 | TBD | Assassins | Call backs continue |
Wednesday, June 11 | 5–7 PM | ITW | Call backs continue |
Assassins | Cast List Emailed | ||

Friday, June 13 | ITW | Cast List Emailed |
Online registration for the ACT Summer Season will run from May 1st through May 15th. At the end of the registration period, if we have more registrations than available roles, acceptance into SS14 will be decided based on a lottery. Children of ACT Board members have a limited guarantee of acceptance into the production. All ACTors accepted into SS14, including board children, must audition for casting. Specific roles are offered to ACTors at the sole discretion of the artistic staff.
Please note the rehearsal schedule for the show or shows in your age group. You will not be required for every rehearsal, only for those where your character is called. You can look at the schedule links for last summer's productions to see how this works. Absences are strongly discouraged throughout the production, and attendance is mandatory from the beginning of dress rehearsals on, so please plan accordingly. All actors and at least one parent are also expected to attend the first meeting on June 9th where we will share more details about the production and have sign-ups for volunteer committees.
All payments or payment arrangements must be secured before auditions. There are no refunds after the start of auditions. Although we usually have a waitlist, bringing actors into the production after auditions presents numerous challenges for the staff and does not give the late arrivals a fair start to the production.
As is now our standard policy, final casting decisions will not be made until after the first week of rehearsals. All ACTors will attend rehearsals for their show. The staff will use this time to get to know the cast, explore the shows and rehearse ensemble pieces.
We are looking forward to a fantastic summer, and we hope you will be a part of it!

The Brothers Grimm “go Broadway” as Sondheim and Lapine offer up a cockeyed fairy tale in Into the Woods, Jr, an adaptation of one of Sondheim’s most popular works designed especially for young performers. All of your favorite characters—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk), and the Witch—meet and interact in this whimsical original story. The musical centers on a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever. |

This American of musicals lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Steohen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. |
Offstage opportunities are available for all our productions. Contact us for more information.
