Summer Season 2018

Welcome to ACT's Summer Season 2018!

This summer ACT is producing two musicals. The shows are Singin' in the Rain Jr and Chicago. Each show will have a single cast with three performances. See the tables below for more details on rehearsals and performances for each show.

Audition Preparation

For audition instructions, follow the link below for the appropriate show.

Actors aged 13 may choose to audition for Chicago or Singin' in the Rain. Casting is at the discretion of the artistic staff, and there is no guarantee an actor aged 13 will be placed in the show of their choice.

• Singin' in the Rain: Ages 7–13
• Chicago: Ages 13–18

Auditions

Initial auditions will be held on Monday May 21st and Thursday May 25th in the ACT Space at 115 Massachusetts Avenue.

• Sign up for an audition.
• Take a look at the character descriptions.
• Follow the instructions above to prepare for your audition
• Print out the forms below and fill them out. We want your thoughtful answers to the questions on the audition form, so please take some time to do this before coming to your audition.
• Bring your forms, music and payment with you to your scheduled audition.
  • Auditions will be held at ACT, 115 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington, MA
  • Be prepared to perform your monologue and sing. We will get to dancing during callbacks.

Callbacks

Our first meeting will be held on Monday, June 4th, from 5:00–7:30 PM at 115 Massachusetts Avenue. Parents will meet from 6–7 PM to review the logistics of the shows and solicit volunteers for the various production committees.

Callbacks will continue for all ACTors Tuesday through Thursday, June 5–7 from 5:00–7:30 PM.

Details for 2018

Online registration for the ACT Summer Season will run from May 1st through May 15th. At the end of the registration period, if we have more registrations than available roles, acceptance into SS18 will be decided based on a lottery. Children of ACT Board members have a limited guarantee of acceptance into the production. All ACTors accepted into SS17, including board children, must audition for casting. Specific roles are offered to ACTors at the sole discretion of the artistic staff.

Please note the rehearsal schedule for the show or shows in your age group. You will not be required for every rehearsal, only for those where your character is called. You can look at the schedule links for last summer's productions to see how this works. Absences are strongly discouraged throughout the production, and attendance is mandatory from the beginning of dress rehearsals on, so please plan accordingly. All actors and at least one parent are also expected to attend the first meeting on June 4th where we will share more details about the production and have sign-ups for volunteer committees.

All payments or payment arrangements must be secured before auditions. There are no refunds after the start of auditions. Although we usually have a waitlist, bringing actors into the production after auditions presents numerous challenges for the staff and does not give the late arrivals a fair start to the production.

More details regarding the audition process will be posted after acceptances are mailed out.

As is our standard policy, final casting decisions will not be made until after the first week of rehearsals. All ACTors will attend rehearsals for their show. The staff will use this time to get to know the cast, explore the shows and rehearse ensemble pieces.
